Cosmos of the Sami People

The Sami peoples cosmos was made up of three different levels, upper, middle and lower. The upper world translates to the south of them where it is warmer and vegetation and such are able to grow in a moderate amount, it represents life. When they visualized the south and with its warmth and feel of life they associated it with the color white. It was where the sun and earth god Mattaraahkka lived, any and all of their gods were always women never men. The middle world was considered the world where all humans needed to exist and was the average place of living, often associated with the color red. All the creatures that dived into the water lived in the underworld which is the north, cold and dark, they associated this with the color black.
