Neighbors of the Sami People

The neighboring countries of the Sami people really is just Europe. Norway, Sweden, and Finland are part of a peninsula so there is not much conflict with the sami people.

Birds of the Sami People

Not much is known, from my research, to show that the Sami people have a huge connection with birds and if there is one main one that they really go to for any religious purpose, but in fact they use birds in compassion to humans to somehow match them up with a partner. in their art as well birds seem to be a common link in Sami art

Cosmos of the Sami People

The Sami peoples cosmos was made up of three different levels, upper, middle and lower. The upper world translates to the south of them where it is warmer and vegetation and such are able to grow in a moderate amount, it represents life. When they visualized the south and with its warmth and feel of life they associated it with the color white. It was where the sun and earth god Mattaraahkka lived, any and all of their gods were always women never men. The middle world was considered the world where all humans needed to exist and was the average place of living, often associated with the color red. All the creatures that dived into the water lived in the underworld which is the north, cold and dark, they associated this with the color black.

Homeland of Sami People

Finland is a Nordic country inside northern Europe. Finland was settled at in 8500 BCE around the stone age which is to be considered very late for a region of the world to be inhabited.

Throughout the Sami peoples existance they've inhabited a lot of different places some of these places being: Sweden, Finland (already mentioned) and the kola peninsula of russia.

To help you better understand these places that the sami people chose to reside I will explain in better detail about the places. Sweden is a Scandinavian country in northern Europe. Sweden borders Norway and Finland and is connected to Denmark.

Kola peninsula is on the northwest side of russia. There is a similar peninsula the north side of kola peninsula, and it had alreadt been in settled on in 7th-5th millennium BCE.
